The St Kilda Film Festival today released a special preview of some of the highlights of the 2017 special screenings program, with the announcement of the special screenings program.
City of Port Phillip Mayor, Cr Bernadene Voss enthused about the quality and variety of the 2017 slate, saying, “The 2017 St Kilda Film Festival will this year showcase a diverse and comprehensive selection of programs that will allow viewers to be entertained and educated throughout.”
The highlights include:
International Program—Tokyo Short Shorts
St Kilda Film Festival partners with the Tokyo Short Shorts Film Festival, the largest short film festival in Asia. Two screenings will showcase the unique talent of Japanese filmmakers.
Graham Kennedy: The King of TV
Screening in conjunction with the 60th anniversary of the first episode of The Graham Kennedy Show going to air, this event will feature rare clips from the NFSA archive, exclusive anecdotes, and a special panel of guests, including IMT scriptwriter, Mike McColl-Jones, and Channel Nine’s voiceover legend, Pete Smith.
Vimeo Showcase
Vimeo’s Senior Curator, Jeffrey Bowers, is an international guest of the festival this year and has curated a program from the American digital film viewing service. A Q&A will follow the screening.
Short Black
An Indigenous retrospective featuring short films by prominent indigenous filmmakers. Director Nicholas Boseley and producer Michelle Broun will take part in a free forum on Indigenous filmmaking prior to the screening.
The full program including the Top 100 Short Films, SoundKILDA Music Video Competition, Under the Radar Youth Competition and Free Filmmaker Development Program will be announced on Wednesday, April 26.
