In an Australian first, Mushroom Pictures, in partnership with the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) and ALWAYS LIVE will bring the magic of music and film to three major regional centres across Victoria this November.
Launching November 24, some of the best music documentaries from across the globe will be showcased in three regional Victorian locations – Ballarat Regent, Geelong Pivotonian and Sun Bairnsdale covering the Goldfields, Bellarine and Gippsland regions, respectively.
This four-day festival is a curated selection of world-class music feature films, bringing the music experience to screens to energise regional Victoria through the unique storytelling of music and cinema.
Headlining this exciting line-up of music documentaries is The Angels: Kickin’ Down The Door – the new feature documentary about the legendary Australian rock band. Also featuring will be the Sinead O’Connor bio: Nothing Compares, the 4K restoration of Martin Scorsese’s classic The Last Waltz and proving that dreams come true for 1,000 Foo Fighters superfans in Italy, We Are The Thousand.
We are also thrilled to announce that Angels brothers Rick & John Brewster will perform an acoustic set of some of their biggest hits on Monday 21 November at the Ballarat Regent Cinema immediately after the film and take questions from fans in the audience.
“ALWAYS LIVE was a dream my late father had to reassure our states’ live music roots and I am proud to be part of the team making it a reality,” says ALWAYS LIVE chairman Matt Gudinski, whose father, Michael Gudinski, conceived of the initiative prior to his passing.
Mushroom Studios Chief Operating Officer Bethany Jones said “Mushroom Pictures is excited to partner with MIFF to bring audiences together to experience world-class music documentaries in some of our best regional cinemas”.
MIFF Artistic Director Al Cossar said “Mushroom Pictures and MIFF combining to curate a Music Film Festival program feels like a perfect harmony. We’re delighted to be a part of this very special event beyond our annual MIFF program and to connect these fascinating films with regional Victorian audiences.”
After so much time of isolation, we all acknowledge how important it is for people to reconnect with each other and the community, so the cinema experience is the perfect way to be swept away by the magic of music and film.
Mushroom Pictures have been working closely with ALWAYS LIVE to ensure that regional centres are top of mind when designing and rolling out cultural and entertainment programmes and this LongPlay Music Film Festival marks the first of what will be many years of expanded programmes that will stretch across the great state of Victoria.
This event is part of ALWAYS LIVE, a new state-wide celebration of contemporary live music supported by the Victorian Government through Visit Victoria.
