Solstice is a feature documentary that takes on that most difficult of topics, suicide.

Created over 4 years by multi-award winning filmmaker, Helen Newman, Solstice documents the extraordinary story of Mary Baker’s parents, Annette and Stuart, following Mary’s death by suicide. This personal tragedy propelled them into the public space to confront the challenges of mental illness and help to end the heartbreaking loneliness of those left behind when a person dies by suicide.

Written and directed by Newman and co-produced by award winning producer, Lucy Maclaren Solstice is a bold, grassroots voice raised to unite, challenge and change how we respond to our collective mental health crisis now and into the future.

Newman says; “This is a film where bravery and hope live alongside the deepest of grief. It is this dichotomy of the two extremes that I think audiences will be drawn to – the surprising hope found in the darkness, the visceral determination found when you are broken.”
