Screen Well, supported by Prime Video, announces Foundation and opens Advisory Board EOI to drive the Mental Health Action Plan (MHAP).
Following the recent launch of the landmark Mental Health Action Plan (MHAP) in May, Screen Well has announced the establishment of the Screen Well Foundation, a new not-for-profit entity supported by foundational funding from Prime Video.
The MHAP is an evidence-informed roadmap to improve mental health, reduce risks and improve workplace practices across the Australian screen industry. A core recommendation within Phase 2 of the plan was the need for a central coordinating body to ensure the industry works together to strengthen psychosocial safety and improve mental health outcomes.
The new Screen Well Foundation will serve as this central coordinating body, shifting the industry from a fragmented approach to workplace mental health to an evidence-informed and coordinated response that encourages proactive prevention.
Prime Video’s foundational support reflects its commitment to the long-term health of Australia’s screen industry. As a commissioner and producer of Australian content, Prime Video recognises that supporting the wellbeing of the people who create that content is essential to building a strong and sustainable industry for the future.
To drive the strategy outlined in the MHAP, the Foundation has officially opened an Expression of Interest (EOI) for its inaugural MHAP Advisory Board.
Screen Well is seeking passionate professionals to join the non-fiduciary MHAP Advisory Board. The Foundation is looking for a diverse range of voices to ensure practical and representative guidance, including industry executives, production leaders, freelance crew members, workplace health and safety experts, fundraising and partnerships specialists, as well as individuals with lived experience of mental health challenges in the sector.
The Board will help oversee the rollout of the MHAP, with an immediate focus on encouraging the adoption of the Phase 1 ACT NOW recommendations – a series of realistically achievable actions that all workplaces can begin putting in place right now – before turning their attention to rolling out the Phase 2 and 3 recommendations.
Screen Well managing partner and author of the MHAP, Jonathon Dutton, said: “The MHAP provides the roadmap, but establishing the Foundation and the Advisory Board is what’s needed to make action happen – to encourage wider adoption of the recommendations, and to oversee the creation of the resources and capability the industry needs to make this the new normal.”
“Prime Video is proud to support the establishment of the Screen Well Foundation and the important work being led through the Mental Health Action Plan. The screen industry is built on the talent, creativity and dedication of thousands of people, and creating workplaces where people feel supported and safe is essential to the future of our industry.
We believe meaningful change comes from working together, sharing knowledge and turning good intentions into practical action. Supporting Screen Well’s next phase is an opportunity to help build a more sustainable and supportive industry for everyone working in screen, and we encourage others across the sector to get behind this important work.”
