THE CORRESPONDENT, starring Richard Roxburgh in a career-best performance as Australian war correspondent Peter Greste, will be released in cinemas around Australia on 17th April 2025. To celebrate the release of the much-anticipated film, Maslow Entertainment is delighted to announce that Richard Roxburgh and Peter Greste will take part in a series of Q&A events in March and April in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Darwin and Hobart. Screenings will begin in Sydney with a Premiere at the Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace on 16th March, and the Q&A tour will then begin in Melbourne on 30th March (full details below and here). Director Kriv Stenders will also join Richard and Peter at selected Q&A screenings in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
Based on the incredible true story of Australian war correspondent Peter Greste’s arrest and imprisonment in Egypt in 2013, THE CORRESPONDENT is directed by Kriv Stenders (Red Dog) and also stars Rahel Romahn, Julian Maroun, Mojean Aria, Fayssal Bazzi and Yael Stone.
This month also marks the 10-year anniversary of Greste’s release from a Cairo prison.
THE CORRESPONDENT is a gripping biographical thriller about the relentless defence of the truth and triumph of the human spirit. While covering the news desk in Cairo over the Christmas holidays, Australian journalist Peter Greste is arrested and accused of terrorism. He has become a pawn in the middle of a deadly game full of corrupt officials and ancient rivalries. Now the subject of his own worldwide news story, with only his wits and unlikely allies keeping him alive, Greste’s freedom and his very survival means staring down a brutal regime.
THE CORRESPONDENT is produced by Carmel Travers with a screenplay by Peter Duncan based on Peter Greste’s memoir The First Casualty. The film has received major production investment from Screen Australia in association with Screen NSW under the Made in NSW Fund and the Regional Filming Fund.
