Produced in partnership with WB Productions, Cactus Tree Entertainment, Bloodrose Productions and Australian media and entertainment company Global City Group, the sale into Australia was an important milestone on the back of its world premiere on the South African pay TV channel M-Net last year.

Global City CEO, Jo Dillon, it’s an incredibly sad and tragic story that made news headlines around the world and has continued to pique our interest including the recent failed parole bid by Pistorius.

“We’re glad to be able to bring the production to Australia for a local audience to see firsthand the emotional journey Reeva’s parents endured through victim offender dialogue with their daughter’s murderer,” she said.

“It has been very well received where it’s already aired, and we have a number of other sales in other countries in the pipeline to help get this extremely important story out.”

The series tells the intimate story of Reeva Steenkamp’s life and her murder at the hands of her then-boyfriend Oscar Pistorius, famously known as the Blade Runner, on Valentine’s Day in 2013.

Pistorius was denied parole last week by South African prison authorities after being jailed in 2016, initially for a six-year term but increased to 13 years after an appeal by prosecutors who argued it was too lenient.

The documentary series gives an in-depth look at Reeva’s life, what happened the night she died as well as the effects it had on those who loved her most.

Two-time South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTA)-nominated director, producer and writer, Warren Batchelor of WB Productions and Bloodrose Productions directed the docuseries.

Tragically Mr Batchelor died on 14 February this year, the ten-year anniversary of Reeva’s death.

The docuseries airs at 8.35pm, Monday 17 April on SBS and SBS On Demand.
