Painting in Pictures, an award-winning production company based in Sydney and Illawarra, was founded by the dynamic duo, Kirsty B Carter and Joe Harrison. This powerhouse team is celebrated for its compelling storytelling and unwavering commitment to sustainability. Kirsty Carter, as Writer, Director, and Presenter, brought to life the engaging short documentary ‘Why Australians Love Going Barefoot.’ Joe Harrison, the director of photography and co-producer, lent his visual storytelling skills and production expertise. Together, they have spearheaded projects that resonate deeply with audiences, including ‘BBC’s The Miraculous Power of Seaweed’ and ‘WhaleX,’ which won the XPRIZE film competition funded by Elon Musk in 2023. Their portfolio also includes an exciting slate of upcoming projects and their eagerly anticipated Borneo feature documentary film ‘Dayakland’. Through eco-conscious production techniques, Painting in Pictures embodies their dedication to a greener future, leaving a lasting impact on both viewers and the environment.

“Nominees like Painting In Pictures are setting the standard for innovation and creativity on the Internet,” said Nick Borenstein, General Manager of The Webby Awards. “It is an incredible achievement to be selected among the best from the nearly 13,000 entries we received this year.”

“We’re over the moon to be nominated for a 2024 Webby nomination. As an Aussie woman weaving tales of our nation’s cherished barefoot traditions, this nod is both a delightful surprise and a honor. To find ourselves in the same constellation as luminaries like Michelle Obama, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and the ever-so-popular Taylor Swift—courtesy of an award that shines a spotlight on the best on the internet—is truly beyond our wildest dreams. Here’s to hoping our story can tread lightly yet leave a lasting imprint, much like the barefoot culture we celebrate.” Kirsty B Carter, Director & Founder Painting In Pictures

“We’re absolutely thrilled with our Webby Award nomination for ‘Why Australians Love Going Barefoot.’ Creating this short documentary for the BBC was an adventure in itself—diving into the quirks of Australian culture and seeing how something as simple as going shoeless puzzles our international friends. It was a lighthearted project that revealed not just cultural idiosyncrasies but also sparked conversations on the unexpected benefits behind it. We’re honoured by this recognition and can’t help but smile at the thought of our barefoot journey making such an impact.” Joe Harrison  Co founder Painting In Pictures

As a nominee, Painting In Pictures is also eligible to win a Webby People’s Voice Award, which is voted online by fans across the globe. From now until April 18th, Painting In Pictures fans can cast their votes at vote.webbyawards.com
