Some of the beautiful dance sequences in The Red Shoes: Next Step were shot on location in the Inner West’s iconic Marrickville Town Hall which dates from 1922 and features dramatic high ceilings. The heritage building’s distinctive windows feature in the film’s theatrical poster.
Another iconic Inner West venue—the Dendy Cinemas Newtown— will host the World Premiere of The Red Shoes: Next Step.
Co-founder/director Inner West Film Fest, Dov Kornits, also Managing Director of Screen Inc. distributor of The Red Shoes: Next Step, says the film and the festival are a perfect fit.
“Inner West Film Fest is designed to celebrate and reflect one of Australia’s most creatively and culturally vibrant communities. To feature The Red Shoes: Next Step in the festival, a beautiful dance film shot partly inside the glorious Marrickville Town Hall, and have the World Premiere in diverse, artistic, eclectic Newtown, was a lay down misère”, said Kornits.
The World Premiere of The Red Shoes: Next Step will take place on Sunday, April 2 from 3pm. Some of the cast will be on the red carpet. Tickets are on sale for the public – https://www.dendy.com.au/movies/iwff-the-red-shoes-next-step

ABOUT THE FILM
The Red Shoes: Next Step follows Sam, a talented dancer whose world spirals after a life-changing event. Sam walks away from dancing and ballet, but the art form is in her blood, and she can’t resist the temptation to return. Life eventually leads Sam back to her old dance academy – but not as a dancer. An old rival, a long-time crush, and her former dance teacher guide Sam back to what she loves most, but ultimately, it’s her own emotions and fears that she must confront to reignite her deep passion for dance.
The Red Shoes: Next Step is co-directed by producer Jesse A’hern (Christmas Down Under, The Legend of the Five) and Joanne Samuel (who famously played Mel Gibson’s doomed wife in Mad Max and has since launched a successful directing career with The Legend of the Five). The screenplay comes courtesy of Zachary Layner, the award-winning John Banas (Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries) and Peter McLeod (The Legend of the Five). The film is produced by Tanya Esposito and Jesse A’hern, Kent Marcus is the Director of Photography, and Daniel Gaudiello is the choreographer behind the film’s extraordinary dance sequences.
