Directed by Walter Salles (Central Station, The Motorcycle Diaries) and starring Fernanda Torres in a career-defining performance, I’m Still Here is a devastating and deeply human portrait of love, loss and resilience in the face of political violence.
Brazil, 1971. As the country tightens under the grip of a military dictatorship, Eunice Paiva, mother of five, wife of former opposition congressman Rubens Paiva, watches her world collapse when her husband is seized by government authorities and disappears.
Based on Marcelo Rubens Paiva’s best-selling memoir and shot on 35mm to evoke the period’s textures and light, I’m Still Here is both an intimate family story and a vital piece of historical reckoning, made all the more powerful by the knowledge that Brazil is still grappling with the legacy of this era today.
