From filmmaker Cameron Zayec, the quasi sci-fi drama epic short film / music video for ‘The Ugly Kings’ is set to be released on September 10th.
In a haunting odyssey through the cosmos, Last Man Left Alive chronicles the mental unravelling and emotional voyage of the final human survivor. As he drifts through the infinite void, his memories reveal the poignant events that led to his solitary exile, blurring the line between reality and delusion in this cinematic music experience.
The film stars Troy Larkin (known for his work with the Cameralla comedy team) in the starring role. He is also supported by Claudia Greenstone. Cameron Zayec serves as Director, Writer, Producer, Co Cinematographer and Co Editor. Riley Sugars serves as Producer. Branco Grabovac serves as Co Cinematographer with Zayec. Rebecca Jarvis serves as Art Director and Set Designer. Ashlee Kukas serves as Co Editor and Original Music is by The Ugly Kings.
The film picked up 5 awards at the recent Red Sands Film Festival: Best Film, Audience Choice, Best Actor (Larkin), Best Cinematography and Best Score (The Ugly Kings)
Director, Writer, Producer Co-Cinematographer and Co-Editor Cameron Zayec said of the project: “Regardless of the $0 budget, I wanted to make something amazing for The Ugly Kings and my good friend, lead singer, Rusty. This was a passion project made with so much love and started as a small music video and has ended up as a Science Fiction Album Experience, as I integrated a lot of music from their album into the final piece. For three months, I had a spacecraft in my lounge room and had to stumble around it, navigating my home until we were able to finalise photography. I am so grateful to the amazingly talented cast and crew that devoted their time and skill to this powerful little project. We all had such an amazing experience and all grew together during the process, honing our craft. We are all extremely proud of Last Man Left Alive and can’t wait to release it to the world!”
Producer Riley Sugars said: “This film is pure adrenaline – bombastic and wild, bursting with the infectious energy that Cam, Troy, and the entire cast and crew brought to the screen. The Ugly Kings’ music amplifies the thrill, turning this cinematic experience into an epic journey, much like our protagonist’s odyssey through space. I look forward to people sharing the ride.”
The film will be released on The Ugly Kings Youtube page on September 10th, with more festivals still to take place.
