The biggest independent film to be produced in Newcastle, Australia, written and directed by Jye Currie, Beat has just been released in America and Canada on 16th August on major streaming services such as Apple TV, Amazon and VUDU by globally recognised film distribution company Gravitas Ventures, who will handling the rights of the film in North America. The film has also been signed with the music label Symphonic for the worldwide release of the original motion picture soundtrack, released on all major music platforms on 15th July.

Beat explores the themes of homelessness and mental illness, with the story driven by classical music. Featuring 12 full-length original piano pieces, Beat is one of the only films in the world to have so many original piano compositions written and performed solely for a film.

Making her lead debut in a feature film, Alexandra Jensen (who plays the role of Ellie) delivers a world class performance. Jensen is known for her work in Frayed and Amazing Grace. Beat also featuring Gold Logie winning actress Rachel Carpani, renowned for her role as Jodie Fountain in McLeod’s Daughters. Alexis Lane (The Flood, Cleverman) also stars. The co-lead is played by Sebastian Szeszeran, who plays the role of Kevin, a homeless man. Sebastian lost 30kg in preparation for this role.

Beat is currently finding success in international film festivals. Already collecting 4 international awards, the film has also been nominated for “Best International Film” at the Canadian Screen Award Qualifying film festival RIFFA and also an official selection at Buenos Aires International Film Festival.

Currie is now working on a documentary on Mental Health & Suicide Prevention which is set to be the largest Australian Documentary on these topics. He is also in the early stages of writing his next feature film which is set to be filmed early next year in North America. Currie is a filmmaker that really connects with his audience through emotional topics. With a passion to not only engage but challenge the viewer, giving his audience an experience,
they can walk away with and will not forget.
