Starring Satish Kala, Abril Tolnay, Aileen Huynh, Dilshan Rain, Sukraj Deepak, Paul Hughes, Dilroop Khangura, Amelia Conway, Yannick Lowry, Belinda Delaney, Danny Barton, Michael Giglio, Ben Hanly, Kiki Skountzos and many more. This is the 4th romantic comedy by Joy House Productions, written by Shamini Singhal & Joy Hopwood.

Co-writer and associate producer, Shamini Singhal is excited and proud that a small independent film has been picked up by a national broadcaster. “I hope this will translate for more filmmakers from diverse backgrounds to be encouraged to tell their own stories. Most importantly, it will encourage more distributors and broadcasters to diversify their portfolio, creating more jobs in the industry,” says Singhal.

A story about a young struggling actor who gets a lucky break after delivering flowers on set and falls for the leading actress and becomes a target for jealousy, all thanks to fame. What may appear to be just as another romantic comedy, Get a Life, Alright has a strong theme about the importance of female friendships, which is an integral part of this film and mental health explored in a nuanced way. Comic moments are captured by the 90’s style music videos. “Get a life Alight is a movie, which has all the flavour of a Rom-Com/ Family Drama. The film bring together families, friends and lost romance. It is definitely one of a kind for Australian cinema, which champions diversity and inclusiveness,” says lead actor, Satish Kala.

“People should see Get a Life, Alright because it has everything people want in a romantic drama. It has the added bonus of a few musical numbers that will stay in your head for days. It’s the first Australian Indie film of its kind, led by an incredible team of talented women,” says leading actress, Abril Tolnay. The film has been beautifully shot by Linda Ung, (cinematographer), set designer Valentina Iastrobova, sound designer Lara Cross and a team of four talented female associate producers, Cat Dibley, Katrina Olsen, Meret Hassanen, Shamini Singhal, music by Anisha Thomas.

“We hope our film will inspire other filmmakers to continue making indie films and for networks and streamers to expand their programming to have more diverse Australian content,” says Hopwood. “I can sense that change is in progress with the first industry round table held last week which the MDA

(Media Diversity Australia) held with television executives from all the major networks.” The soundtrack has been picked up by radio stations across the globe due to its catchy selection of songs written by Joy Hopwood and Roy Nicolson. This film is to be enjoyed by the whole family and fans of romantic comedies. You’ll laugh and you’ll cry as it uncovers the value of family and friendships, and all the characters are likeable and very relatable. Catch it streaming on the Nine network (9Go) on the 21st July 2023, a feel good midday movie.

“All my films champion diversity, not only in front of but behind the camera too. Making movies requires a lot of passion and the love of storytelling. If you’re motivated by money then the movie making business is not an industry to get into as it requires luck, preparation, determination, timing and a good team who are flexible to various circumstances out of our control and who see the project right through to the very end.”

Hopwood hopes to continue making diverse films and has just completed filming is The Gift That Gives starring Takaya Honda (Neighbours), HaiHa Le (Packed to the Rafters) & Lex Marinos (OAM / Kingswood Country) & Maria Tran (Last King of the Cross) and is currently in pre-production for It’s Our Time, with coproducer, Erica Long.

“We’re looking forward to the next chapter in casting for our next film.”
