The Darwin Film Society partners with MAGNT to deliver an expanded wet season film program in 2026 with tickets on sale now!

Darwin, Northern Territory – 17 December 2025

Darwin Film Society’s much-loved wet season program, Flix in the Wet, will enter a new chapter in 2026, relocating to the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) and expanding to a two-day weekend schedule.

Running from 7 February to 29 March 2026Flix in the Wet 2026 will present 10 carefully curated feature films over seven weekends, cementing its reputation as Darwin’s premier wet season film event. Since 1990, Flix in the Wet has captivated local audiences every Wet, and in 2026 it returns “home” to the MAGNT site, this time in air-conditioned comfort in the upgraded theatrette.

The move to MAGNT has been made possible through support from the Northern Territory Government’s Community Benefit Fund, with $92,491 invested in a new projector and larger screen, along with $69,625 for new seating to upgrade the screening space. The enhanced infrastructure, to be completed in late-February 2026, will significantly improve experience for Top End audiences and create a sustainable, long-term home for the program.

“We’re so excited to be bringing Flix in the Wet to MAGNT in 2026. We’ve been looking across Darwin for a sustainable home for our Wet Season program for a number of years, only for us to come full circle – returning to a place that hosted our screenings back in the early 90’s,” said James Parker, General Manager of Darwin Film Society. “We can’t thank the team at the Community Benefit Fund enough for their support, with grants helping make this project a reality. And I would like to say a huge thanks also to our partners at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory for their belief in this project and support in getting it over the line.”

“We are thrilled to have partnered with Darwin Film Society and the Community Benefit Fund to upgrade the MAGNT theatre to provide an all-weather home for cinema initiatives and niche programming for audiences,” said Adam Worrall Director of the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory. “The partnership has already proven successful with MAGNT hosting special events and the short film program as part of the Darwin International Film Festival (DIFF) this year and we look forward to presenting Flix in the Wet in 2026.”

In 2026, Flix in the Wet will offer 50% more screenings, with sessions now running on Saturdays and Sundays. On weekends audiences will be able to enjoy a pre-lunch 11am session and a post-lunch 2pm session, although on occasion there will be some variation in screening times to accommodate other bookings in the venue.
