Australia’s only dedicated music video festival, CLIPPED Video Music Festival, is back with its first full program since 2019, taking place at Ritz Cinemas, Randwick on Sunday 27 October.

The festival, celebrating the artistry of music videos, offers a packed schedule featuring an awards show, exclusive premieres, industry panels, and an intimate ‘In Conversation’ session with internationally acclaimed director Shane Drake, who has directed over 150 music videos for artists such as Avril Lavigne, Panic! At the Disco, Paramore, Timbaland, Flo Rida and Keith Urban.

Tickets for each session are priced at only $20, allowing attendees to curate their own festival experience by selecting individual sessions.

The festival kicks off with a Stories on Screen, a showcase of exceptional narrative music videos by talented Australian filmmakers. Following that, the Directors Discussion Panel is freewheeling dialogue featuring some of Australia’s top music video directors, including Sanjay De Silva (DIVISION), Michael Hili (FINCH), VERSUS, and Felicity Jayn Heath (The Preserve). Their work spans across global collaborations with artists like Sampa The Great, The Killers, Flume, Genesis Owusu, Clara Fable and many more. Attendees can expect insights into the state of the industry and creative process behind some of the country’s most visually striking music videos.

Then Festival Director Samuel Bright will lead an exclusive In Conversation with director and filmmaker Shane Drake, to explore work and his vision from his illustrious 20-year career. His filmography is a diverse array of music videos, commercials, and feature films including collaborations with Taylor Swift, Tim McGraw, Kelly Clarkson, and Keith Urban. His direction won Video of the Year at MTV’s VMAs for Panic! At the Disco’s “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” while his commercial and branded work demonstrates his versatility with such clients as Ford, Google, Snickers, American Idol, and The Voice.

The afternoon session of CLIPPED Music Video Premieres showcases unreleased Australian work. Audiences will be the first to see new clips on the big screen from ground-breaking local artists, followed by conversations with the creators. Highlights include the anticipated launch of “Queenstown” by Hermitude, directed by Kalani Gacon and produced through Mountain of Youth, a filmmaking mentorship organisation based in the Blue Mountains.

As the sun sets, the festival culminates in the CLIPPED Music Video Awards, where the Top 30 Australian music videos of the year will be screened in full cinematic glory. In addition to acknowledging the best International and New Zealand clips, Australian awards include categories like Best Video, Directing, Cinematography, Colour, Editing, Animation, and Art Direction. With prizes from Panavision, RED Digital Cinema, Angelbird, ZOOM, GEAR HAUS and Crayon up for grabs, it’s set to be a night of celebration, creative recognition, and unparalleled networking opportunities, complete with a vibrant party along the way to keep the energy going.
