Darwin’s annual major screen culture event, the Darwin International Film Festival (DIFF), returns to the iconic Deckchair Cinema in September with 11 nights of Premieres under the tropical stars, 12-22 September.
With Darwin still buzzing from the star-power at the 2023 event, with the likes of Hugo Weaving, Osamah Sami, Rolf de Heer, Mwajemi Hussein and Derik Lynch appearing at Deckchair to present films and meet audiences, the DIFF team is already hotly planning the 2024 program with this year’s films and guests to be announced in August.
A highlight of DIFF is Screen Territory’s SPARK Short Film Initiative which has announced the theme for 2024 as “courage”. Three successful NT filmmaking teams will receive $30,000 in production funding from Screen Territory to produce a ten-minute short film to world premiere at DIFF 2024. Each team will be supported by an experienced Screen Industry story development mentor, will be assigned an Executive Producer and have access to some of the country’s top screen businesses including Panavision, Trackdown Studios and The Post Lounge . Submissions open now!
The DIFF program also features the 2024 NT Australian Cinematography Awards which showcases the extraordinary talent of those working in all aspects of cinematography in the Territory. Special guest for the 2024 event is Award-winning cinematographer Peter James ACS ASC who has shot a swag of Hollywood feature films including. Meet The Parents, Driving Miss Daisy, Mao’s Last Dancer, and 27 Dresses.
With the spotlight on screen in September, the Territory’s premier event bringing the industry together, the Screen Territory NT Screen Summit, returns with a thrilling program of sessions, panels and networking opportunities designed to grow, develop and extend the local sector while facilitating connections and opportunities.
DIFF is now open to submissions from filmmakers with categories including Best of Northern Australia Shorts, Best of South East Asian Shorts, Australian Feature and Australian Shorts.
Presented by the Darwin Film Society and the NT Government through NT Major Events, DIFF is supported by Screen Territory, Screen Australia and Randazzo Properties.
