BLACKMAGIC DESIGN ANNOUNCES NEW LOWER PRICE FOR BLACKMAGIC PYXIS 6K AND BLACKMAGIC CINEMA CAMERA 6K

New lower price for full-frame 6K camera models allows even more customers to shoot high end, large format cinematography!

Blackmagic Design today announced new lower prices for Blackmagic PYXIS 6K models and Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K. Customers can now save over US$1,000 depending on the model. This reduction has been made possible due to securing better pricing on parts, and will allow more customers to be able to purchase a full-frame cinema camera. The new prices are listed below.

  *  Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K from USD $2,715 to $1,595

  *  Blackmagic PYXIS 6K L from USD $3,080 to $1,995

  *  Blackmagic PYXIS 6K EF from USD $3,070 to $1,995

  *  Blackmagic PYXIS 6K PL from USD $3,265 to $2,195

Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K and Blackmagic PYXIS 6K models are available immediately from Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide from US$1,595.

All models feature a sensor with a native resolution of 6048 x 4032 allowing customers to shoot with a shallow depth of field or use anamorphic lenses un-cropped for a true cinematic look. With dual native ISO up to 25,600, the high performance sensor provides stunning low noise images in all lighting conditions. Customers can shoot up to 36 fps at full sensor resolution or 120 fps windowed. The amazing sensor combined with Blackmagic color science gives customers the same quality as the most expensive digital cinema cameras.

This large full-frame sensor lets customers work in a variety of film formats and aspect ratios without sacrificing quality. Using the full area of the sensor gives customers a unique open gate 3:2 image which also lets them reframe their shots in post production. The large sensor also lets customers work in true 6:5 anamorphic without cropping, making widescreen cinematic images more detailed and in higher resolution than previously possible. Customers can even use the classic Super 35 sized window on the sensor to create an instant ‘close up’ version of their shot that fits seamlessly with open gate footage.

Customers can choose between L-Mount, EF or PL lenses, making Blackmagic PYXIS and Cinema Camera 6K compatible with the largest range of cinema and photographic lenses in the world. The L-Mount models work with the latest full-frame lenses from Leica, Panasonic and Sigma but can also accommodate lens adapters, allowing customers to use a wide variety of new and vintage lenses. The EF model lets customers use high quality photographic lenses customers already own from DSLRs. Or the PL model lets customers work with professional cinema lenses from Zeiss, ARRI, Cooke and more without needing an adapter.

Blackmagic PYXIS 6K and Cinema Camera 6K can shoot in all standard resolutions and frame rates from HD up to DCI 4K and even 6K. Customers can even shoot stills at 24.6 megapixels. All models will shoot up to 36 fps at 6048 x 4032 3:2 open gate or 60 fps at 6048 x 2520 2.4:1 and 60 fps at 4096 x 2160 4K DCI. For higher frame rates customers can window the sensor and shoot up to 100 fps at 2112 x 1184 Super 16. Customers can even work in true anamorphic 6:5 at much higher resolutions than other cameras using anamorphic lenses in 4.8K 24 fps at 4832 x 4032. Customers can even shoot 120 fps in 1080HD.

“We have been working hard to secure improved pricing on some parts, so we can now pass that on to our customers through a lower price,” said Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO. “This price reduction allows even more customers to buy a professional full-frame cinema camera giving them a whole new way to tell their stories. This will be exciting!”
