Award winning Filmmaker and Kimpton Hotels Heiress Marcia Kimpton, is a global tastemaker who has become one of the most trusted and respected voices in independent cinema. With more than 40 awards from festivals around the globe, Marcia is on a mission to shift the paradigm of filmmaking. For every barrier and glass ceiling placed in front of her, she defiantly blazes past it with her sharp wit, creative storytelling, and a passion for making the world a better place.
Her anticipated new feature film AN AMERICAN ABROAD certainly doesn’t disappoint. Filmed in six countries, the film is emotionally layered, and laced with dark humour and a cinematic escape that challenges conventions and keeps you guessing until the final frame. In this fun, mockumentary style feature, we follow the character “Marcia,” a travel host, as she navigates relationships and life all while learning from the cultures around her. Through the eyes and voice of her new boyfriend, Arnold, we witness a tumultuous and ever-evolving example of what it takes to find love in a modern world. There’s eccentric humour, grounded drama, and tons of the unexpected in this new partnership, as they travel from Amsterdam to Istanbul, through the islands of Greece, to French wine country, and Lisbon, Portugal, to finally end up not only in Cape Town, South Africa, but also in remote safari locations in the African Savanna. Their trip is a whirlwind of fun and chaos, filled with excitement and uncertainty. It’s also a sensory experience for those who love a great adventure— without the cost of the plane ticket.
AN AMERICAN ABROAD is expected to debut wide later this year, but in the interim the film is making the festival rounds and collecting accolades. Most recently, she was awarded BEST ACTRESS at the Croatian International Film Festival. The film will additionally screen at the London Rolling Film Festival (taking place September 5th -7th) as well as the Catalina Film Festival (September 24th-30th).
As the daughter of the late Bill Kimpton (Founder of the prestigious chain of Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants), Marcia is also a sought after travel aficionado who regularly contributes to numerous publications. She can additionally be seen on KIMPTON’S WORLD TRAVEL, COMEDY, and FILM CHANNEL on YouTube where she takes the viewers along on some of her greatest adventures.
