Melbourne filmmakers are gearing up to shoot a crime comedy in January 2025, set against the expansive beauty of rural Victoria. Featuring a stellar cast and crew, Payback Pie will deliver a mix of action, suspense and quirky humour.

The short film follows an amateur thief seeking revenge against a gangster who left her for dead. However, her plans are thrown into chaos when her rogue, pie-obsessed, partner-in-crime compromises the mission.

The short film boasts an exceptional cast, including:
● Gyton Grantley (Underbelly, The Dressmaker), known for his gripping performances in Australian drama.
● Scott Major (Heartbreak High, Neighbours), beloved by local and international audiences.

The screenplay has already garnered industry recognition, including:

These accolades reflect the script’s sharp storytelling and its ability to engage and captivate audiences, even before entering production.

Talent Behind the Camera
The project is helmed by Maxine Gatt, Melbourne filmmaker with credits as a Producer’s Assistant on high-profile productions like Shantaram (Paramount Television Studios and Apple TV+). She is also a writer, director and producer of her own visionary short films.

The production is spearheaded by Danaë Grieef, Producer and Production Designer with over 10 independent feature films to her name and brings a wealth of creative expertise to the project.

The cinematography team features the talented duo Hook Stowers and Richard De Silva who collaborate, both technically and creatively, with renowned Directors of Photography through their work at Blackmagic Design.
