Grimlight Pictures has announced that its original mystery-thriller web series Hometown will premiere on October 31 on YouTube and TikTok, bringing an atmospheric story of secrets, friendship, and fear to audiences worldwide.
Set in a small Australian town, Hometown follows three friends whose lives are upended after witnessing a violent crime on the outskirts of their community. What begins as a pact of silence spirals into a dark exploration of trust, guilt, and survival as they struggle to keep their secret from tearing them apart.
“What I loved about playing Jodie was how raw and relatable she is,” says lead actress Jenna Kenney. “She’s not a typical hero — she’s just a girl trying to hold her world together when everything starts to unravel. The story really asks what you’d do if you saw something you can’t unsee.”
“We wanted to explore what might happen when regular people get thrown into a life-threatening situation, way out of their comfort level, where they don’t know who to trust or where to turn to for help”, says Director Andrew “TaNK” Stennett. “In the end, it’s not so much about mythical action heroes trying to save the day, but ordinary people getting caught in extraordinary circumstances who are just trying to survive.”
“Instead of trying to pitch to various places, which is extremely hard, we made the decision to go straight online,” says Producer Michelle Kenney. “The vertical series on TikTok are becoming very popular, the same with YouTube Shorts. Because those platforms are popular, that shorter content is what people tend to gravitate towards.”
Filmed in Brisbane, Queensland, the five-part series showcases the region’s cinematic potential while highlighting the strength of independent Australian storytelling. Hometown was produced by Michelle Kenney and Grimlight Pictures, directed and edited by Andrew “TaNK” Stennett, written by Karla Gamero Gomez, and stars Jenna Kenney and Jade Nixon.
Audiences can follow the unfolding mystery on TikTok, Instagram and/or YouTube, where new episodes will be released weekly beginning October 31st.
