For the first time, Australia will have a coordinated national presence at the Annecy International Animation Film Market (Mifa) this June, the world’s leading global event for the animation industry.

Ausfilm will lead a delegation of Australian animation companies and practitioners in partnership with state and territory screen agencies VicScreen, Screen NSW, Screen Queensland, Screen Tasmania, Screen Territory and Screenwest. The united front aims to showcase Australia’s world-class animation talent and foster international collaboration, creating opportunities for Australian animators to expand their reach and impact on the international stage.

Ausfilm CEO Kate Marks said, “We’re thrilled to be leading this initiative for Australia’s animation industry. Our national presence at Annecy will help highlight the incredible creative talent and production capabilities Australia has to offer. It’s also an opportunity to promote Australia’s competitive 30% Post, Digital and Visual Effects (PDV) Offset, which provides significant value for international partners to collaborate with Australian studios.

“Australian animation is having a moment on the world stage, with Bluey the #1 US-streamed show in 2024 and a feature film on the way, and Adam Elliot’s Memoir of a Snail winning Annecy’s top prize for Best Feature last year and nominated for an Oscar.”

This year is just as promising with two Australian projects in official competition, including feature film Lesbian Space Princess (We Made A Thing Studios), which won Berlin’s prestigious Teddy Award, and an episode of Shaun Tan’s anticipated anthology Tales from Outer Suburbia (Highly Spirited, Flying Bark), alongside short film Mr Legs (Studio Showoff) which has been selected for the Midnight Specials program.

The delegation of over 40 companies includes Dave Enterprises (Bob’s Burgers), Flying Bark (Netflix’s Stranger Things: Tales of ’85), Ludo (Bluey) and Princess Pictures/Princess Bento (Koala Man).

The delegation will fall under the banner Animation Australia and will include:
