Arts & Cultural Exchange (ACE) Expands Its Ground-breaking Screen Trades Program with New Script Coordinator Course in 2024

Arts & Cultural Exchange (ACE) continues to drive industry innovation and empower diverse talent with the launch of a brand-new Screen Trades course: Television Drama & Comedy Script
Coordinator Fundamentals.

This comprehensive two-day workshop, running on Saturday 23 November and Saturday 30 November 2024, will provide aspiring script coordinators with essential skills to succeed in the dynamic world of television production, facilitated by experienced industry professional Terence McCarthy.

With an increasing demand for polished, production-ready scripts in the Australian television industry, this course is designed to equip participants with the expertise needed to handle script management with precision and professionalism. The course will focus on key areas including managing script releases, ensuring error-free workflows, and mastering the coordination of production-related documents.

Participants will gain a deep understanding of the production cycle, with a focus on Shooting Scripts and Blue Revisions—two critical elements in episodic television. By learning to craft the production facing blueprint for the production schedule, and the crucial final adjustments that provide technical clarity moving into principal photography, participants will develop the skills needed to contribute seamlessly to the fast-paced production environment.

With over 17 years of experience across the Australian and US television and film industries, workshop facilitator, Terence McCarthy, currently manages the script department for NCIS: Sydney
Season 2.

“We’re excited to launch this new workshop run by a top-tier industry professional, as part of our Screen Trades program,” says Barry Gamba, Screen Cultures Producer at ACE. “This is an opportunity for participants from underrepresented communities to gain the specific skills required for television production, opening doors to new career opportunities in an essential behind-the-scenes role.”

The workshop will be held at ACE’s headquarters in Parramatta, a key cultural hub in Western Sydney. ACE’s ongoing commitment to supporting First Nations and culturally and linguistically
diverse (CaLD) communities ensures that this course is not just about technical skill-building but also about expanding diversity within the Australian screen industry.

Applications for the workshop are now open. Aspiring television drama and comedy professionals are encouraged to apply, as places are limited.
