The 11th Annual Joy House Film Festival will be held at Randwick Ritz on Sunday the 9th February 2025, doors open at 5pm for a 5.25pm screening.

The Joy House Film Festival is a short film festival with the main theme of JOY and sub-theme of diversity.

It was founded in 2013 to give a platform for emerging filmmakers and for their work to be celebrated. The festival awards prizes for best film, Cultural Impact Award and Changemaker Award for Women.

This year’s one hour programme of uplifting short films include: Bernice by Madeleine Wighton, The Maker by Timothy Edgerton, Thank You For The Meal by Chris Choi, Career Fight by Angela Blake, Happy New Year, Ms Luna by Andy Diep and Baby Shoes by Carli Sanger.

“The judges, Peter Thurnwald (X.O. Kitty), Adam Dunn (former Joy House Film Festival award winner/ actor / The Fall Guy), Nazareth Alfred (filmmaker), Nadine Torney (WIFT NSW Acting Chair / Representative), Bina Bhattacharya (From All Sides / Here Out West filmmaker), all commented on the high calibre of entries submitted this year, which made their decision in deciding the award winners difficult,” says Joy Hopwood.

“It was so great seeing the high quality of films. I thought there was a great mix and some really beautiful films in there,” says Adam Dunn.

This festival is proud to have discovered great films and such talented filmmakers, such as The Present by Jacob Frey. This three-minute film tells the story of a young boy who gets an injured puppy as a gift, we won’t spoil what happens next but it’s not surprising Disney were left so impressed after seeing this film that they offered him a job. Another finalist favourite is Joy & Herron, this 4 minute animated film directed by Passion’s Kyra & Constantin, tells the story of Joy, the brand dog mascot, and her comic trials with a pesky heron. This short film has gone on to win many accolades across the globe. Also alumni 2013 Gervais Merryweather’s Buy Buy Baby, is now working in the U.S for Walt Disney animation’s Moana 2.

“We look forward to announcing and discovering more talented filmmakers of the next generation,” says Joy Hopwood.

After the 11th annual Joy House Film Festival, the premiere of It’s Our Time, by Joy House Productions and Avenior Productions, will premiere.
