Scottish actor Peter Capaldi is the first guest announced for Supanova 2018, with the country-spanning fan expo pubiclising the coup via Twitter:

That’s a pretty big scalp. Capaldi is, of course, best known as the 12th incarnation of the Doctor in the long-running children’s series Doctor Who, having stepped into the role when it was vacated by fez-wearing twerp Matt Smith*. Prior to that, his most high profile role was as foul-mouthed political fixer Malcolm Tucker in The Thick of It and In the Loop, but he’s been in tonnes of stuff over the years, from the classic Local Hero to Neil Gaiman’s low-budget, high concept TV fantasy Neverwhere, in which he played an angel trapped in the London tube system. Ever see that one?

Exactly which cities Capaldi will be hitting has yet to be announced, but presumably he’s on board for Melbourne (April 20 -22) and the Gold Coast (April 27 -29), with Sydney and Perth definite maybes, and Brisbane and Adelaide too far out to call.

Keep an eye on the Supanova site for more news.

*Look, he just bugs the hell out of me. I don’t know why.
