Skeleton Tree, the new album from legendary Australian outfit, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, drops on September 9. Significantly, this is the first album recorded and released since the tragic death of Cave’s 15 year old son, Arthur, in 2015. Speculation has run rife about how this would effect Cave’s work, which is already marked by a dark and somber tone. Now, with the release of the trailer for Andrew Dominik’s One More Time With Feeling, the film project accompanying the album release, we have something of an answer.

Cave’s talk of reinvention and irrevocable personal change after “…an event occurs that is so catastrophic” points to this being an incredibly intimate set of work, a process of catharsis by art. Cave’s music and writing have never shied away from documenting pain and sorrow in the past, but perhaps never on so personal a level.

Once More Time With Feeling will premiere at the Venice Film Festival before screening in 800 cinemas globally for one night only on September 8, the day prior to the album release. For tickets, head to the official Nick Cave site.
