Well, this is just wonderful. Netflix have today announced a new children’s show, Julie’s Greenroom, in which the acclaimed star of The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins will teach kids about the wonders of the performing arts. Also in the mix: puppets, as this is a Jim Henson Company production.
Andrews co-created the series with her daughter, Emma Walton Hamilton, and Judy Rothman-Rofe, and will not only host the show but also act as executive producer. Guillian Yao Gioiello co-stars as Julie’s assistant, Gus, and a staggering lineup of guest stars have already been confirmed, including Alec Baldwin, Sara Bareilles, Joshua Bell, Tituss Burgess, Carol Burnett, Chris Colfer, Robert Fairchild, Josh Groban, David Hyde Pierce, Bill Erwin, Ellie Kemper, Idrina Menzel, Tiler Peck and Stomp.
The show aims to teach young children about all aspects of the performing arts: music, dance, acting, writing mime, circus arts, and more.
Said Andrews, “This project represents the fulfilment of a long held dream to educate children about the wonder of the arts. I am thrilled to be partnering with my daughter and long time coauthor, Emma, to bring this show to life along with our co-creator, Judy Rothman-Rofė. We could not be more honored to be working with the extraordinary Jim Henson Company. We are equally delighted to be premiering as a Netflix original production.”
Expect Julie’s Greenroom early in the 2017.
