Jason Bourne, the fifth film revolving around Matt Damon’s memory-impaired conspiracy-buster, scooped up $109.9 million globally over the weekend, with $7.69M of that coming from Australian audiences. That makes it the fourth biggest opening of 2016, the biggest opening of the franchise’s history, and the biggest opening of Matt Damon’s career. Yes, even bigger than The Legend of Bagger Vance.

What that means going forward is that we will almost certainly get another Bourne movie in the not too distant future – a possibility that Jason Bourne‘s denouement left deliberately open. At a guess, expect another complete trilogy, with each separate set of films neatly bookending the red-headed stepchild that is The Bourne Legacy.

Jason Bourne is in cinemas now. you can read our review here.
