Martial arts action star, Jackie Chan, will be in Sydney next month to shoot a new futuristic action thriller. Bleeding Steel begins principal photography in July, under the direction of Leo Zhang.
Plot details are sketchy at this stage: Chan plays a special forces agent who must battle an evil criminal gang who have designs on a young woman. That sounds pretty generic, but the prospect of Jackie Chan- even late-period Jackie Chan – doing a sci-fi movie is an intriguing one.
This isn’t the first time Chan has worked in Australia; 1996’s Police Story 4 was partially shot in Brisbane, while 1997’s Mr. Nice Guy was filmed in Melbourne. Chan’s parents also settled in Canberra for a long period, while his father worked as a chef at the American embassy – Chan’smother is actually buried there.
Bleeding Steel is set to be the biggest budget Chinese film ever shot in Australia.
