Speaking at a career retrospective at Annecy Animation Festival in Annecy, France, fantasy filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro today announced the initial cast of Trollhunters, his upcoming serial animation project with Dreamworks Animation and Netflix.
Anton Yelchin, Kelsey Grammer and – almost inevitably – Ron Perlman are on board for the urban fantasy series, which sees a young boy, Jim (Yelchin), plunged into a hidden world of magic and danger after he finds a mystical amulet, encountering along the way a friendly troll, Blinky, (Grammer) and a less than friendly troll, Bular (Perlman).
Del Toro is pretty much the premier big screen fantasist working today, and while it can be frustrating seeing so many of his announced projects fall by the wayside (hello, At the Mountains of Madness/Frankenstein/The Count of Monte Cristo) it does make it all the sweeter when one finally hits the wicket. Trollhunters drops on Netflix in December, 2016.
