Liam has a full-blown Hollywood acting career of his own, and to say that he lives in the shadow of his Thor-playing brother would be a misconception. As a matter of fact, many voices claim he is much hotter than “Thor” and while some of his fans mostly like him for his role as Gale Hawthorne in The Hunger Games, his Hollywood acting career is anything but modest.

Here’s a fun, quick fact that not many know about Liam: he almost landed his brother’s most famous role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe way before Chris was even getting ready for his audition. Another fun fact about the three successful brothers Luke, Liam, and Chris Hemsworth is that they all shared a mansion in California that they ultimately decided to sell for $4.25 million.

Let’s take a closer look at his evolution as an actor starting with his first successful audition for the Aussie TV series Home and Away in the land Down Under.

From Australian TV Series to The Witcher

While you might have heard about Liam’s rather tumultuous on-again, off-again relationship with singer Miley Cyrus, you might not have known that Liam actually started off his career at the age of 16 in the popular TV series Home and Away. He continued his growth with an appearance in McLeod’s Daughters prior to being given a recurring role in Neighbours which also starred his brother Luke. Liam moved on and scored additional auditions for various roles on TV shows like The Elephant Princess and Satisfaction prior to finally deciding it was time for him to move to the United States and pursue a career on the big screen in Hollywood.

The Witcher & Poker Face

In October 2022, it was announced that Liam would be stepping into the role of Geralt of Rivia in the now-iconic TV series The Witcher, replacing Henry Cavill during the fourth season. While Liam might have seemed like an unexpected choice for Geralt, the same was said about Cavill when he was originally cast in 2018.

2022 is also the year when Liam played Michael Nankervis in Poker Face together with Russel Crowe and RZA. The movie tells the story of a tech billionaire who decides to host a high-stakes poker game between friends. The fun evening suddenly takes an unexpected turn when old secrets start to resurface. The complex revenge plot gradually unfolds as thieves break into the billionaire’s mansion.

Impressive Nominations and Awards

The three hunky Hemsworth brothers from Australia were all definitely blessed with excellent genetics and talent, and this helped Liam quickly follow in the footsteps of his older brothers. In 2022, the Melbourne-born actor was nominated for the Outstanding Short Form Comedy or Drama Series Most Dangerous Game at the Primetime Emmy Awards.

In 2016, he won the CinemaCon Award for Ensemble of the Universe Independence Day: Resurgence. At the 2010 Kids’ Choice Awards, Liam was nominated for Best Kiss and Cutest Couple with Miley Cyrus. In 2012, he was nominated for the Breakthrough Performance award for his role in The Hunger Games during the MTV Movie Awards. In 2019, he was nominated for the Favorite Comedy Movie Star award for his role in Isn’t It Romantic at the People’s Choice Award. At the Zurich Film Festival in 2015, he won the Golden Eye Award for the New A-Lister.

Over the years, he received numerous other nominations and awards for his on-screen performances including many Choice Male Hottie, Choice Movie: Liplock, and Favourite On-Screen Chemistry.

In 2012, he played the role of Spencer in Knowing starring Hollywood icon Nicolas Cage. During the same year, he played Victor in Triangle followed by his role as Will Blakelee in The Last Song in 2010, the same year when he was featured in Miley Cyrus’ clip for her “When I Look at You” song. After starring in The Hunger Games’ in 2012 and playing Billy the Kid in The Expendables 2 during the same year, Liam had a very busy 2013.

He scored four roles in four films including Love and Honour, Paranoia, Empire State, and the sequel to The Hunger Games. Liam also played in the Most Dangerous Game TV series in 2020 and scored roles in successful films like Arkansas, The Duel, or Killerman.

Final Thoughts

Liam Hemsworth is without a doubt a very talented and successful actor, both home and away. But then again, so are his brothers. Without a doubt, Liam is a genuine heartthrob…ahh, but so are his brothers. So it would be impossible to say one is hotter than the other. The good thing about the multi-talented Hemsworth brothers, is that there are so many of them that we are spoilt for choice. Their parents must be very proud of them.
