He might have a documentary about him soon to screen in 3 parts on the ABC, and he stills contributes written reviews to The Australian, but now David Stratton will return to reviewing the latest films for the camera under the banner of David Stratton Recommends, through an alliance between three of the biggest indie arthouse screens in Australia: Cinema Nova in Melbourne, Hayden Orpheum in Sydney and Luna Palace in Perth.
David Stratton says “I’m very happy to be able to provide comments on some of the more interesting films playing in Australia’s independent cinemas. Since ABC TV’s At The Movies came to an end in 2014 I’ve very often been told this sort of commentary is missed, and while I can’t bring Margaret Pomeranz along with me for these brief video reviews I hope they will prove useful and illuminating for serious cinema-goers.”
David Stratton Recommends kicked off today with reviews of 20th Century Women:
And Hounds of Love:

Hi there
We are looking for someone to review the documentary VITCH which is still on the Festival trail around the world. It will screen at the UK Jewish Film Festival in August, and hopefully in Paris and Berlin later this year.
We have one screening in Sydney at 3pm on Sunday 26th August at Dendy Newtown cinemas. If a reviewer would like to see it we can offer 2 complimentary tickets. We are hoping to get an article in the local courier and possibly an interview on radio. Anyway eventually it will have to go onto DVD or online so we’d like to make sure it has had a proper review first.
Thanks for your interest and let me know if you would like tickets.
Thank you

About Vitch – the story of Eddie Vitch, whose iconic caricatures once adorned the walls of the Hollywood Brown Derby in LA. Vitch was working there during the 30s and got to know many of the great celebrities and stars of the day. For Vitch, it was a delightful interlude before being deported back to Europe where he spent the rest of the war finding resourceful ways to avoid being arrested by the Nazis. As a Jew, this was no mean feat, but he survived and the full story forms part of a documentary directed by Sigal Bujman which premiered at Mill Valley Film Festival in late 2017.
