Cult Local Comic Greener Pastures Coming to the Screen – No Bull!

by Dov Kornits

Visual stylist Nik Kacevski (Skinford) has directed a short proof of concept adaptation of Australian comic book Greener Pastures by Michael Michalandos and Tim McEwen.

Here’s a teaser.

Debuting in the 1990s, Greener Pastures follows the existential journey of Trevor Bovis, a stud bull who defies his nature, stands on his hind legs, and walks into human society.

“This adaptation is something truly special,” said Tim McEwen. “It’s surreal to see a character I’ve drawn for over 30 years step off the page and into reality.”

“We have a lot more Greener Pastures stories to tell,” added Michael Michalandos.Seeing Trevor come to life in a world that feels so real, so textured, is beyond exhilarating.”

Starring Maia Mitchell, Geoff Morrell, Matthew Backer and Alistair Bates as Trevor, with practical prosthetics designed by Make-up Effects Group (Talk to Me), this adaptation sees Trevor long since leaving the farm, his horns filed down to blend in with the soulless existence of the corporate machine. But when he’s called to return to the country, he must confront his past and the supernatural forces of his original home.

“I’ve always been drawn to stories that take a heightened concept and present it in a way that feels completely real,” says Nik Kacevski. “Where you can touch the world, feel its weight, and believe in its history. With Greener Pastures, I saw an opportunity to build something visceral, textured, and emotionally raw. A story worth telling cinematically.”

Shot between Barangaroo in Sydney’s CBD and Wildes Meadow in the Southern Highlands, representing the urban vs rural worlds of the protagonist, the filmmakers hope that the stylish short proof of concept film lays the groundwork for a full-length series, which is currently in development.
