Director Edgar Wright has been thinking about Baby Driver for a long, long time. How long? Well, check out the 2003 video he directed for Manchester electro outfit Mint Royale back in 2003. “Blue Song” sees a happy-go-boppy getaway driver, played by The Mighty Boosh‘s Neol Fielding, time a robbery with music. The gang of criminals he’s working with? Julian Barrett (The Mighty Boosh), Michael Smiley (Spaced, Free Fire), and Nick Frost (Spaced, Shaun of the Dead).

It’s a nice little bit of business and while it’s a far cry from Wright’s rambunctious, rocking musical actioner we’re getting in a couple of weeks, you can definitely see the seeds that would grow into Baby Driver. Never throw anything away, folks; sometimes all it takes is 14 years and four feature films to get from A to B.

Baby Driver is in cinemas from July 13, 2017.
