John Wick 2 is set to earn much more than the original film in Australia. So what, you say, sequels usually make much more than the original, internationally the film has already almost doubled what the first film earned… but let’s address the elephant in the room: when the Australian release date for John Wick 2 didn’t coincide with the US; in fact it was months later, and then extended even further when its rights moved from eOne to StudioCanal, virtually every armchair critics who have ever pirated a film online got on their high horse to tell anyone in earshot how the distribution system in this country is encouraging piracy [justifying your crime much?! And it is crime!] and that the distributor is going to suffer commercially in the process.

Ahem, as of writing, John Wick 2 has earned $2.4million in Australia compared to the original film’s $3.2million total. It is going to well and truly double the original’s takings and almost certainly exceed its comparative performance globally. So, like all of the other movie lovers out there who choose to support the tradition of moviegoing that they fell in love with in the first place, get out of your echo chamber hole, stop FOMOing and go the cinema.

John Wick 1 was pretty good but John Wick 2 is not good. It is the usual Hollywood laziness in just churning out sequels to build a film franchise that milks the punters of their hard earned. Nothing new in JW 2 to justify spending your time and money.
