Box Office Report: 7 – 10 December 2023
Miyazaki's The Boy and the Heron may have snatched top spot in the US, but couldn't topple The Hunger Games, Trolls and Napoleon down under. On a sidenote, imagine being a young parent during the Trolls era of films - we genuinely pity you, though you do have Bluey to make up for the pain. Silent Night opened respectively for an indie on wide release, while One True Loves died a painful death. Meanwhile, Bolly blockbuster Animal played to packed cinemas, whilst in terms of new arrivals, very few punters dived into The Abyss: Special Edition ($25k on 36 screens), or checked out the long-awaited cinema release of Paul Schrader's Master Gardener ($26k on 35 screens), the French feel-good music-themed drama Ténor ($13k on 28 screens) or the delayed local release of Dicks: The Musical ($8k on 21 screens) from new locally based distrib VVS Films - welcome to the slaughterhouse.
