Robert Zemeckis’ high concept new drama Here barely registered on its opening weekend, despite the starry cast, scraping in a few more dollars than the 15th anniversary of Coraline, which must have reappeared on screens this weekend to make up for the diminishing returns on Runt, The Wild Robot, etc. Are kids and their parents the only people going to cinemas these days? The 20-year anniversary re-release of cult favourite Shaun of the Dead barely registered – did anyone even know it was coming out?

Speaking of horror, which is supposedly back in vogue, Aussie entry The Moogai (is it a horror?!) ‘from the makers of Talk to Me‘ opened softly with a $538 screen average across 143 screens, and killer roo film The Red scraped in a measly $388 on 74 screens (admittedly with very bad sessions) reinforcing our belief that Australian films that are anything but family and big star vehicles need to come out and succeed in the US first or at the same time to succeed here.
