Mamma mia, check out how much indie Aussie doco Signorinella: Little Miss raked in during its festival run, first at MIFF, and then, most significantly, Palace Cinemas’ Italian Film Festival. Now in general release, and even with a tidy weekend screen average on 25 screens (mostly Palace), the brunt of this modest, highly-specific local documentary’s theatrical revenue (which is a lot more than most Australian films) will have been earnt during its festival run. We live in interesting times.
Other than that, lots of Halloween themed retro screenings under-performed, apart from Twilight, which worked particularly well as marathons, but how many hours and screens does that take up?
Bugonia opened to a healthy screen average while Aziz Ansari’s Good Fortune went wide for a slightly higher result, and the less said about J-Lo’s star turn in Kiss of the Spider Woman – $26,760 on 99 screens at a $270 screen average – the better.
