These days, it’s not often that a film increases its box office in week 2 by more than 50%, but that is exactly what has happened with Sinners! Aided by the long weekend and word of mouth, hitmaker Ryan Coogler has debunked the oft referenced theory that films by and about African Americans don’t work outside the US (and with the controversy that has swirled around the possibility that Warner Bros. under-invested in the film’s marketing outside the US, perhaps there may have been some further budget put towards the film’s success beyond opening weekend). Something else that it will hopefully also debunk is that original films do not work in cinemas anymore. Well, Tinā, The Amateur, Warfare and Drop want to have a word with you (plus book adaptations such as The Correspondent, The Penguin Lessons, Small Things Like These, The Count of Monte Cristo and Conclave, which came in at #21 with a bullet this weekend).

PS: No comment about the Revenge of the Sith 4K remaster, WTH?!
