Box Office Report: 14 – 17 March, 2024
Has the grey dollar returned to the cinemas? If the figures and number of screens for The Great Escaper are anything to go by, then maybe they have finally run out of things to watch on the streamers, which all seem to have the same content these days. And, did the Oscars offer a bump in cinema attendance? Perhaps for Oppenheimer, which re-entered the top 20 this weekend on 94 screens, and Poor Things, which enjoyed a 41% boffo in box office. And maybe a bit for The Zone of Interest, following director Jonathan Glazer's contentious comments following that film's win, which may have attracted a whole new audience for the film. On the whole, though, with box office down almost 25% weekend to weekend, there's not a great deal to celebrate.
