The first clapperboard has snapped shut on 1%, the upcoming WA-shot bikie drama written by screen veteran, Matt Nable, and directed by first time feature-wrangler, Stephen McCallum.
Described as “…an intense Shakespearean crime saga”, 1% tells the tale of Paddo, heir to the leadership of outlaw motorcycle gang, The Copperheads. Ryan Corr (The Water Diviner, Holding The Man) Abbey Lee (Neon Demon, Mad Max: Fury Road) Josh McConville ( Cleverman, The Infinite Man) , Simone Kessell (Of Kings and Prophets, Wonderland), Eddie Baroo (Spin Out) and Aaron Pedersen (Mystery Road, Goldstone) all feature in the film, with writer Nable also stepping in front of the camera.
McCallum, the recipient of this year’s West Coast Visions funding from ScreenWest, noted, “It’s an honour to be bringing Nable’s screenplay to life. I was immediately drawn to the visceral, high stakes world he created where loyalty, ambition and family collide. It’s a gritty character driven story and we have a great cast to realise it.”
Jamie Hilton and Michael Pontin are producing the film for See Pictures, with Spectrum Films on board for post-production.
The five-week WA shoot is expected to wrap on December 16th.
I am really looking forward to this movie! Australia hasn’t done a good bikie/biker movie since Stone. The later one we did was Brothers in Arms which left me a bit miffed about the make up, the bikes and also the history having been a part of it myself. They really do need to do their homework a bit better.
Anyway good luck guys I have met a couple of your extras and they seem to be very excited!
