GLOW, or Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, was a real thing. Now that thing, a mid-80s TV phenomenon that saw a bevy of actresses and models slug it out in the ring for the delectation of the audience, is coming to Netflix, with Community star Alison Brie featuring as a struggling actress who joins Marc Maron’s troupe of wrestling women and finds… well, something, we’re sure.
GLOW comes to us from Liz Flahive (Homeland, Nurse Jackie) and Carly Mensch (Nurse Jackie, Orange Is The New Black, Weeds), who clearly have a background when it comes to shows with strong female protagonists, and the weird world of ’80s women’s wrestling is certainly a fairly unexplored corner of the pop culture universe. This looks like huge fun.
GLOW hits Netflix on June 23, 2017.
