The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) proudly announces the opening of entries for the highly anticipated 2025 AACTA Awards presented by Foxtel Group. With over 50 award categories spanning across film, television, documentary, short film and online content, the AACTA Awards continue to be the pinnacle celebration of Australian storytelling, culture, and creativity on both the big and small screens.
This marks the second year the prestigious ceremonies will be held on the Gold Coast. The 2024 AACTA Awards were a significant milestone in AFI AACTA history, bringing together some of the nation’s biggest stars and practitioners including Margot Robbie, Cate Blanchett, Simon Baker, Rebel Wilson and Joel Edgerton. Their presence underscored the global reach and appeal of Australian cinema and television.
“The 2024 AACTA Awards were a testament to the vibrancy and ingenuity of the Australian film and television landscape,” said Jack Christian, AACTA Chair. “The presence of globally renowned talent like Margot Robbie and Cate Blanchett underscored the immense international appeal of Australian cinema and television, further solidifying our position on the global stage.”
The AACTA Festival will also return for 2025 after the inaugural festival debuted in February, offering an immersive experience into film, television, gaming and the digital realm. The festival provides a platform for industry professionals, and enthusiasts to engage, learn and celebrate together, making a new chapter in the Australian Academy’s commitment to fostering industry growth and creativity.
“The AACTA Festival represents a unique opportunity for industry stakeholders and enthusiasts to converge, exchange ideas, and celebrate the rich tapestry of Australian storytelling,” added Damian Trewhella, AACTA CEO. “With the resounding success of the inaugural Festival earlier this year, we are excited to build upon this momentum and deliver an even better experience in 2025.”
With over 10,000 attendees expected to converge on the Gold Coast, the AACTA Awards and Festival further cement the region’s status as a hub for screen innovation and excellence in Australia. All award categories from the previous year will return for the 2025 AACTA Awards, with additional details regarding awards for digital and online content set to be announced in the coming months.
