Well, here’s some good news. Brian Cox improves everything he’s in, and given that he’ll soon be in Australia, that means our country is about to get measurably better. That’s right, the first (and best? Take it to the comments, Mads fans) Hanibal Lecter is heading down under to promote the new historical drama, Churchill, in which he plays the title role.

Directed by Jonathan Teplitzky (The Railway Man) and co-starring Miranda Richardson (Harry Potter, The Crying Game, Damage) as the Prime Minister’s wife and confident, Clemmie, Churchill looks at the final days before the launch of Operation Overlord on June 6, 1944, when the British PM butted heads with allied command over their plans for the amphibious landing at Normandy.

Cox will be appearing at limited special event screenings during May in Sydney and Melbourne, ahead of the national release on June 8. If we’re lucky, he’ll hopefully extemporise on his extraordinary and wide-ranging career, which has seen him take roles in Braveheart, Rob Roy, Zodiac, Adaptation, Red and Red 2, Coriolanus, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Troy, X-Men 2, The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy, Rushmore and Manhunter, not to mention TV projects Medici: Masters of Florence, Penny Dreadful, War & Peace and Deadwood.

More details as they emerge.
