Word at The Hollywood Reporter is that David Ayer will be returning to the DCEU to helm Gotham City Sirens, a movie that will see a number of female Batman villains team up for some reason or other. Expect Catwoman to turn up, Poison Ivy, and, of course, Harley Quinn – Margot Robbie is already confirmed to be on board.

For a less than great film, Suicide Squad did remarkably well fro DC/Warner – it actually outgrossed Deadpool which, for its genre and tone, was certainly the one to beat, so it’s not surprising to see them want to get the old band back together sooner rather than later. Suicide Squad 2 is also in the works, as well as a Deadshot solo film, which will hopefully explain why he keeps taking his mask on and off, but Gotham City Sirens is apparently being moved to the head of the queue. If they manage to get it on screen before Captain Marvel (long shot, but who knows?), they’ll have beaten the House of Ideas to the female-led-super-movie brass ring twice over.

As to what we can expect plotwise, the gates of speculation are open, but if it’s not too much to ask, we would really, really, like Barbara Gordon/Oracle to be the hero antagonist, pitting her wits against Harley’s anarchic brand of criminality. That would be mint.
