The Revelation Perth International Film Festival has just announced its full programme of films and events for 2026…and as always, it’s an utterly fascinating mix.
“Revelation is known for an independent spirit that is not afraid of issues, subcultures, adventurous art and culture and seeing how far it can take audiences and filmmakers,” says Festival Director, Richard Sowada. “It has flown the flag high for diversity in WA art and culture and while showcasing many enormously sophisticated films, it maintains a real sense of rock and roll and enjoys the power chords it plays.”
Always the edgiest entry on Australia’s busy national cinematic calendar, The Revelation Perth International Film Festival plays a little differently than our other regional film fests, trading in far more unconventional fare, all with a slightly rebellious swagger. 2026 is set to be another fascinating year for The Revelation Perth International Film Festival, with the full details of its programme just released. Audiences out west will once again be spoiled for choice: with a lineup of over 50 features and documentaries and almost 100 short films, this year’s programme offers a huge diversity of cinema at its bracing best.

The Revelation Perth International Film Festival kicks off with the latest film from one of American cinemas great iconoclasts: Gus Van Sant’s hostage thriller Dead Man’s Wire, which finds the director on typically terse and tense form. There are also wild, eye-popping efforts from Australia (the gay themed cop thriller Body Blow; the survival horror shocker Penny Lane Is Dead) and New Zealand (the road movie Holy Days; the body horror miasma Mum I’m Alien Pregnant); cutting edge docos (Sentient, Silenced, Knife: The Attempted Murder Of Salman Rushdie, Mineshaft: The Cruising Murders); movies about music (The Best Summer, Don’t Forget Me: Eddie Cochrane, Roll Bus Roll); movies about movies (Mockbuster); classic retrospective screenings (Richard Brooks’ 1967 masterpiece In Cold Blood); new works by much-loved cult heroes (Ben Wheatley’s Bulk); and films from exciting new directorial voices (Kristen Stewart’s A Chronology Of Water, Brandon Daley’s $Positions).
Backed up with special events and Q&A screenings, The Revolution Perth International Film Festival 2026 gleefully and inventively walks the edge once again.
