An Instagram post has confirmed that things are moving forward with Kurt Sutter’s long-gestating Mayans MC, a spin-off from his widely appreciated and terribly ended biker series, Sons of Anarchy. Lo!

FX have committed to a pilot, and clearly Emilio Rivera, who played Mayans MC president Marcus Alvarez, is on board. Other than that, details are sketchy.
This could be interesting. Sons of Anarchy was a fun show that gradually transformed into a fairly bleak and punishing experience before culminating in one of the dumbest finales in television history. It’s not that it got too violent (although it beat Game of Thrones to “burning a daughter in front of their father” by several years, and there wasn’t nearly the same the same outcry) but it was thematically shaky as hell, with creator and showrunner Sutter clearly torn between lionising the outlaw lifestyle and condemning the awful damage it does. Still, it did have a great ensemble cast, consisting of some of the leatheriest character actors ever assembled. Hopefully Mayans MC pulls more from the latter than the former.
