It’s kind of amazing that it took this long to get a Philip K. Dick anthology series. The much-adapted SF guru (Blade Runner, Total Recall, Minority Report, A Scanner Darkly) was a stunningly prolific writer, churning out a staggering number of short stories, all of them perfect grist for the TV series akin to that twilighty show about that zone. Now, thanks to Stan, we’re getting a 10 part series that explores a whole bunch of Dick’s weird realities and ambitious ideas: Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams.
Produced by Bryan Cranston, the Stan Original series features an impressive roster of acting talent, including Timothy Spall (Mr. Turner, Secrets & Lies, The King’s Speech, Harry Potter), Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire, The Big Lebowski), Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange, The Martian, Top Boy), Anna Paquin (True Blood, The Piano), Terrence Howard (Empire, Lee Daniel’s The Butler), Greg Kinnear (Heaven is For Real, As Good As It Gets), Essie Davis (The Babadook, Game of Thrones), and Cranston himself. Some of Dick’s best known short works are being adapted, including “The Commuter”, “The Father-Thing”, “Impossible Planet”, “Autofac” and more.
Sadly, no air date has been announced yet, but the press release promises a slightly ominous “soon”, so get excited – this should be pretty great. Meanwhile, have a poster:
