Superstar director Ridley Scott charges up a lot of relentlessly dog-eared concepts (a virus has wiped out most of humanity, once-great cities lay in ruins, scavenger gangs called Reapers prey on the few decent-hearted survivors, survivalist types protect their turf etc etc) with his trademark epic cinematic style in this bracing trailer for the dystopian thriller The Dog Stars, based on the book by Peter Heller. There’s hope amongst the darkness here (Van Morrison soars on the soundtrack), and the best cast since Dune‘s massive hi-cred ensemble (Jacob Elordi in optimistic hero mode, with Margaret Qualley, Allison Janney, Guy Pearce, Benedict Wong and a dominating Josh Brolin in support) looks to be bringing it big time. It’s the end of the world (again), and we feel more than fine about this compelling trailer.
