While no one could say that 2014’s big screen reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles left them hankering for a sequel, we’re getting one anyway – and it actually looks okay.
This time out the powers that be are clearly leaning into the ’80s cartoon, hence the presence of fan-fave villains Bebop (warthog) and Rocksteady (rhino), and we already know that Portlandia‘s Fred Armisen is voicing the villainous alien brain, Krang. Plus we get the Turtles’ party wagon, complete with manhole-cover-firing action, and what appears to be a glimpse of the TechnoDrome, which should push the nostalgia button for many.
Still, many of the elements that hobbled the first film – the horrible character design of the turtles, the clunky humour, Megan Fox – are still here, so we’ll have to wait and see.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Out of the Shadows hits Australian screens on June 9, 2016.
