“You think you’re above the law, but I’m not the law.”
Tom Cruise is back as itinerant ass-kicker Jack Reacher in Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. Edward Zwick, who called the shots on Cruise’s The Last Samurai, takes over directing duties from Christopher McQuarrie on this one, which adapts the 18th book in Lee Childs’ popular action thriller series.
Never Look Back sees Reacher trying to help out Cobie Smulders’ wrongfully-accused MP, and cracking a lot of skulls along the way. The first Reacher flick was surprisingly enjoyable, largely owing to its old-fashioned approach to violence and masculinity, plus the presence of Werner Herzog as the villain of the piece. Never Look Back doesn’t have an elder statesman of arthouse cinema in the cast, but all the other important elements look present and accounted for.
Jack Reacher: Never Go Back releases on October 20, 2016.
