Late last year, we posted the trailer for Isn’t It Romantic, marking the first lead role for Australian funny lady Rebel Wilson, a film which she also produces. And now we discover that it is premiering on Netflix on February 28, with all signs pointing to it bypassing cinemas altogether.
The plot goes something like this: ‘New York City architect Natalie (Rebel Wilson) works hard to get noticed at her job but is more likely to be asked to deliver coffee and bagels than to design the city’s next skyscraper. And if things weren’t bad enough, Natalie, a lifelong cynic when it comes to love, has an encounter with a mugger that renders her unconscious, waking to discover that her life has suddenly become her worst nightmare—a romantic comedy—and she is the leading lady.’
From director Todd Strauss-Schulson (A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas) and a screenplay by Dana Fox (How To Be Single), Katie Silberman (Netflix’s Set It Up) and Erin Cardillo (TV’s Life Sentence), and with supporting cast including Liam Hemsworth, Adam Devine, Priyanka Chopra, Tom Ellis, Betty Gilpin and Jennifer Saunders, this looked like a home run for Valentine’s Day, but must have seemed too big a risk for Warner, so now you can enjoy it sooner than later from the comfort of your own home.
Raincheck that Valentine’s Day date for a fortnight, and Netflix and chill as they say…
